The fashion industry demands fine white fibres which are then dyed with harsh chemicals to the need and trend of fashion. As a result of this demand, farmers in South America breeding less and less colours - as white is the only fibre that can be dyed. The sad thing is, that alpaca is the only fine wool producing animal, that comes in up to 24 natural colours (some breeders even count 66 natural colour shades) and it is might loose it colour variety if there will be no demand for natural fibres, which are so beautiful and unique in itself.
